About

Next drop ins: Mondays @ 4pm on April 20th, 27th, and May 21st.

Nosework is like the pet dog equivalent of K9 scent detection. But, instead of hunting for explosives or narcotics, our dogs are trained to find a few harmless essential oils (Birch, Anise, Clove and Cypress). Nosework is a very easy sport that does not require any prior training - it is especially suited for dogs with social struggles (particularly dog reactivity) because they are run individually in the class environment.

Nosework is mentally exhausting (10 minutes is equal to 1hr of hard running), but it is also very low impact which is ideal for older dogs or those that aren't suitable for sports like agility.

Beginners Drop-in

Length: 1.5hrs

Dogs per class: 3

Location: Alstonvale, NSW

Experience needed: Nil

The drop-in classes are designed to get dogs and handlers to a point in their training where the dog knows:

- How and when to search

- What they're searching for (birch, anise, clove, cypress)

- How to communicate that they've found it to their handler

And the handler knows:

- How to cue their dog into a search

- How and when to help their dog

- When their dog is closing in on the odour, and when the dog has found it

- How to effectively reward their dog

Once teams are at that point, they're able to join others on 'field trips', where we replicate real world detection scenarios at various locations.

Field Trips

Offered to dogs that are ready for 'real world' searching. Will include a fee on top of the membership that is based on the cost of venue hire.

Expand your dog's understanding of scent work through the introduction of new elements (search areas), refining their understanding of the response, and learning to become 'obedient to the odour'.
